As many of you know, we have been trying to get our RSS feed on the Drauger OS website working for a while. Well, we finally did it. We finally got that RSS feed up and running!
What is this RSS feed you keep talking about?
Great question. An RSS feed is a way to get notifications about blog posts as soon as they come out. On the website you read a given blog, there is a file tha an app called an RSS Feed Reader will read and use to display the blog post to you on your device. These days, many people use these RSS Feed Readers on their phones. An example of some are Feedly and Flym.
This one thing, the RSS Feed, is what we have been waiting on to move our blog entirely over to the Drauger OS website. For a while we have been posting there, while also posting these same articles on our blog over on SourceForge. So, you may be reading this on either site!
However, because of this last hurdle being overcome, we will no long be posting on our blog on SourceForge, and instead be posting on the blog on our own website. This is being done for several reasons:
- To decrease reliance on third-party sites and services
- To better monitor the up-time and reliability of all our services.
- To make a single, centralized place for all things related to Drauger OS including not only our blog, but also our wiki, upcoming forum, bug reporting and support, and eventually even the online hosting of our ISOs.
The blog on SourceForge will eventually be deleted. But will remain available, just not active, until at least the Beta 1 release of the next version of Drauger OS, which has an undetermined launch date at the current time. It is also unknown at this time whether SourceForge will still get current ISOs uploaded as a sort of back-up service or not, once we completely move over to our own servers. However, the page will not be deleted. Only marked as “permanently moved” once the transition is completed.
For now, we can say that the next big change for the website on our agenda is the addition of a forum. This forum is intended to be a place where users can communicate with developers in a more formal fashion than our Discord Server and Telegram Group, but simultaneously less formal than an actual email. Furthermore, it will be a place to suggest features, ask questions, find support, and in general discuss Drauger OS and Linux. Beyond this forum, there will also be other small changes here and there such as a link to vote for us on Distrowatch and potentially a download counter.
Until then, if you use an RSS Feed Reader, we invite you to subscribe to our RSS Feed to get updates about blog posts before anyone else.
We can’t wait to talk down in the comments!
