That’s right everyone, we got some more help! Mark Dougherty has offered to help out with documentation, and in a few short weeks will probably be writing blog posts too. He is a writer for Boiling Steam, and has written on a variety of Linux-related topics. You can read some of his work here.
In other news, we would like to thank It’s FOSS and one of their writers, John Paul Wohlscheid. John Paul wrote an article on It’s FOSS about Drauger OS, spurring on another explosion in of community members.
Finally, we did a lot of debugging the past couple weeks, trying to make sure that our system-installer was working correctly, or at least better, in time for the beta release of Drauger OS 7.5.1 on March 21st, while also converting chunks of it to Python from simple BASH scripts.
This conversion should speed up installation time a tiny amount, but more importantly, they are vital to our end-goal of making the entire installer out of Python. Once we complete this goal, we will be able to multi-thread the installation process, there-by speeding up installation by a significant amount. This of course is not taking into account the speed advantage Python has over BASH.
Ideally, I would love to see system-installer fully converted to Python by the time Drauger OS 7.5.1 has it’s stable release. Whether this will actually happen or not remains to be seen.
Until then, we have less than 2 weeks until the release of Drauger OS 7.5.1!
Here’s hoping it goes of without a hitch!
