System Requirements

Drauger OS Development aims to make Drauger OS available for as many people as possible. However, we can’t make it available to everyone due to time, financial, and sheer man-power constraints. Because of this, we would like to make our system requirements as clear as possible, to help avoid headache.

Minimum System Requirements

CPUDual-Core, 1.8GHz, 64-bit processor
RAM1 GB
Storage16 GB
Graphics ProcessorIntegrated
Screen Resolution1024×768 at 60Hz
External Ports1 Port for Display (HDMI / DisplayPort / VGA / DVI)
2 USB Ports for Installation USB Drive and Keyboard (Mouse optional, but recommended)

Please recognize that while these system specs SHOULD work, we DO NOT guarantee the experience will be pleasurable.

For a more pleasurable experience, please reference this chart:

Recommended System Requirements

CPUQuad-Core, 2.2Ghz, 64-bit processor
RAM4 GB
Storage128 GB
Graphics ProcessorNVIDIA GTX 1050, AMD RX 460, or equivalent card
Screen Resolution1080p at 60Hz
External Ports1 Port for Display (HDMI / DisplayPort / VGA / DVI)
3 USB Ports for Installation USB Drive, Keyboard, and Mouse
1 Audio Out Port

Anything above these specs is most likely going to yield better results

FAQs

Do you suggest NVIDIA or AMD?

This depends on a couple factors. If you want the best performance no matter what, go with NVIDIA, if you just want a dedicated graphics card that works, go with AMD. In general, we would suggest NVIDIA because it is known working on Drauger OS. However, we do not include the drivers for it on the ISO, so choosing AMD is a valid choice. However, as we do not have an AMD graphics card to test with, this option should be taken with some caution.

Do you suggest having more than one screen?

Under normal circumstances, we would suggest multiple screens for increased productivity. However, Drauger OS is not made for productivity. It is made for gaming. As such, since some games can only use one monitor at a time, a second would be a waste of money.

Beyond this, our Xfce layout is designed with single-monitor use in mind and may cause issues for people trying to use it with multiple monitors.

Should I get an Intel or AMD processor?

For security reasons, we would suggest getting a AMD processor. However, a ThreadRipper might not serve you well in games. We would suggest either a Ryzen 5, 7, or 9 processor instead to both save money and perform more reliably.

As of 2019, with the release of the Ryzen 3rd Gen line-up of processors, we suggest going with a mid-to-high end AMD processor not just for security, but also performance reasons, as AMD CPUS are out-performing Intel CPUs in many workloads. They are also overclock-able and tend to cost less.

Can I run Drauger OS on (insert random CPU architecture here)?

No. Drauger OS ONLY runs on 64-bit CPU architectures. Specifically: x86_64 / amd64. Most modern laptops, desktops, and servers (made since 2004-ish) run this.

Do you plan to add support for any other CPU architectures?

Out of necessity, our repositories support 32-bit (x86) code. However, we do not plan to build an ISO for Drauger OS on any other CPU architecture anytime soon, and there will never be a 32-bit (x86) version of Drauger OS. If you are interested in porting Drauger OS to another CPU architecture, please contact us.

This being said, we do have an internal version of Drauger OS on ARM64 that does not work properly yet, which is slated for release sometime in 2022, if ever.
